The Grossman Family | Connecticut "A Day in the Life" Session
I have quickly fallen in love with doing full day "A Day in the Life" sessions - 8 to 10 hours spent with a family, in their home, immersed in the routine of their everyday lives. Spending that much time with a family, any anxiety or reservations tend to dissipate early on, and then the session becomes just about as close to an honest depiction of real life as you can get. It is a privilege to be invited into a family's home - their sanctuary, and included in their daily traditions. I don't take these experiences lightly - I learn something from every session I do, and I am so grateful to each family for trusting me with their story.
And when the family who has chosen me to document them is also one who is already close to my heart? Well, that makes the experience all the more meaningful for me. Shawnee and I have known each other since we were seven years old. I met her when I first moved to the U.S. in the second grade. We grew up together - going to elementary school, junior high, and high school together. Many, many ridiculous memories navigating the late '80's and early '90's as Catholic school girls. Oh the angst! We had such a great time during this day together, catching up and recalling stories from the deep past, including rides scrunched up on top of each other in Shawnee's dad's Fiero (car seats, what?).
Shawnee and her husband Shawn have created a beautiful life together as co-business owners, and parents to three amazing children - Noelle, and twins, Tanner and Keira. They are currently in the process of moving back to California, so they wanted their life in Connecticut documented before they left - specifically FALL in Connecticut. I mean, come on - of course! Fall in New England is unrivaled. It really is one of the most magical times of the year here. I drove up from Long Island the night before, woke with the family the next morning, and we spent the day visiting two apple/pumpkin farms (I had to taste the apple fritters at both!). It was a Connecticut fall day lived to the fullest, and I am so excited to share it with you today.
I love you, Shawnee, and I loved spending the day with you and your amazing family!
Here are some of my favorite photographs from the day, and the Grossman's family film.
And finally, the Grossman's "Story in Motion".
