52 Weeks of Portraits | Long Island Family Photographer

We went from 60 degrees on Wednesday to a blizzard on Thursday - what a whack-a-doo week from Mother Nature! The area is still covered in snow but it looks beautiful. It is really sunny today so the reflection of the sun off the snow is brightening up the house immensely. I love it. We are all still fighting coughs and colds, but everyone is in good spirits. It has been a pretty happy week :)

A little background about this project: my 52 Week Project is a portrait project that documents the growth of my children. For each of their first years, I did a photo a day project of each of them... this is a simpler continuation of that. One portrait a week for the year - not your typical "sit and smile at the camera" portraits, but "environmental portraits" - photographs of my children, taken in their element, documenting this moment in their lives.

I try to write a few short words about each child under their portrait to record any details or milestones of the week.

This project was inspired by a gorgeous blog called You Are My Wild

At the end of each year, I make a memory book of the year's portraits.

Lila - Age 5, Week 13

You are getting a bit tired of being stuck in the house. You love adventures. You love going to new places. Not much of that is happening at the moment. Luckily your big imagination has come in handy and you have created some spectacular drawings and craft projects these past few weeks. We are running out of gallery space in our house!

Logan - Age 2, Week 34

You spent another week at home from school - the cough and cold lingers on and Thursday was a snow day. You have been a pretty good sport about it, but the cabin fever is starting to show. You and Lila have been bickering a lot, and you have been showing your defiance with a lot of "NO!". Your sleep has been a mess since New Year's and you are back to nursing at night. We are navigating these days together as best we can and hoping to regain some balance soon. It will happen.
