52 Weeks of Portraits | Long Island Children's Photographer

A little background about this project: my 52 Week Project is a portrait project that documents the growth of my children. For each of their first years, I did a photo a day project of each of them... this is a simpler continuation of that. One portrait a week for the year - not your typical "sit and smile at the camera" portraits, but "environmental portraits" - photographs of my children, taken in their element, documenting this moment in their lives.

I try to write a few short words about each child under their portrait to record any details or milestones of the week.

This project was inspired by a gorgeous blog called You Are My Wild

At the end of each year, I make a memory book of the year's portraits.

Logan - Age 2, Week 35

This week you suddenly started pronouncing Lila's name more accurately - now you are saying "Why-wa" instead of "Wah-Wah". It's so interesting to watch you consciously practicing the sounds, saying her name over and over again. So much going on in your little brain. I think you've 85% given up your nap, much to my dismay . . . I was hoping you would nap until age 4 like Lila! I'm brainstorming some ways to make more of our afternoons since it looks like I'll no longer be using them for work time. I know I only have you home with me for a short time, though, so let's make the most of it. Spring is coming - I think its time for some Mom and Logan adventures!

Lila - Age 5, Week 14

You are so like me. You are so meticulous and so serious when it comes to trying to accomplish a task. And you get so frustrated when you can't do it. We've had a lot of talks lately about how you learn through mistakes, and you just have to keep practicing and trying until the mistakes become less and less, but its a hard lesson to learn. Believe me, I am still working on this lesson, too! I think if we keep cheering each other on we'll be okay, though. I know you can do whatever you set your mind to do.
