52 Weeks of Portraits | Long Island Children's Portraits

A little background about this project: my 52 Week Project is a portrait project that documents the growth of my children. For each of their first years, I did a photo a day project of each of them... this is a simpler continuation of that. One portrait a week for the year - not your typical "sit and smile at the camera" portraits, but "environmental portraits" - photographs of my children, taken in their element, documenting this moment in their lives.

I try to write a few short words about each child under their portrait to record any details or milestones of the week.

This project was inspired by a gorgeous blog called You Are My Wild

At the end of each year, I make a memory book of the year's portraits.

Logan - Age 2, Week 40

You killed me practicing your smiles for your school pictures this week. So stinkin' cute!! Reports say that your class was so well-behaved. No tears, just total cooperation for the group shot. Apparently you are most even-keel playgroup they've had at the school for years! I'm excited to see the next two years with this group of kids - such a good bunch!

Lila - Age 5, Week 18 -

I love how happy you are at school and with your friends. It was your "special day" on Monday so I came with you to school for the day. Your teacher said you have made a complete 180 degree turn-around since the beginning of the year. You used to be so serious and let little things get to you, and she said now you always have a smile on your face, you have so much fun with your friends and that you seem so much "lighter". I am so happy to see you happy.
