52 Weeks of Portraits | Nassau County Children's Photographer

A little background about this project: my 52 Week Project is a portrait project that documents the growth of my children. For each of their first years, I did a photo a day project of each of them... this is a simpler continuation of that. One portrait a week for the year - not your typical "sit and smile at the camera" portraits, but "environmental portraits" - photographs of my children, taken in their element, documenting this moment in their lives.

I try to write a few short words about each child under their portrait to record any details or milestones of the week.

This project was inspired by a gorgeous blog called You Are My Wild

At the end of each year, I make a memory book of the year's portraits.

Logan - Age 2, Week 46

You are growing taller everyday and I love to watch you play with Lila's friends. You keep up with the big kids like nobody's business. You are such a social little guy, and you love your sister to pieces. It's funny to watch you mimic her when you are out and about with other kids. Even though you two bicker a lot at home, you both gravitate to each other when you are out in the big world. I am enjoying my afternoon time with you especially now that the weather is getting warmer. We have been going on walks and visiting the playground, or playing outside. Only a few more weeks until you turn three. I can't believe it. This is a pretty sweet spot we are in right now with you. I am savoring it.

Lila - Age 5, Week 24

Portrait of a little girl in black and white

You are becoming more and more independent everyday. Although it's hard to swallow that you don't want all the hugs and kisses that you did as a toddler, it is also beautiful to watch you flourish and grow into your own confident, happy, complicated, curious little soul.
