52 Weeks of Portraits | Long Island Children's Photographer
A little background about this project: my 52 Week Project is a portrait project that documents the growth of my children. For each of their first years, I did a photo a day project of each of them... this is a simpler continuation of that. One portrait a week for the year - not your typical "sit and smile at the camera" portraits, but "environmental portraits" - photographs of my children, taken in their element, documenting this moment in their lives.
I try to write a few short words about each child under their portrait to record any details or milestones of the week.
This project was inspired by a gorgeous blog called You Are My Wild.
At the end of each year, I make a memory book of the year's portraits.
Lila - Age 5, Week 21
I keep catching myself looking at you lately and thinking "who is this grown girl?". Your legs are getting longer and your questions often stump me, and your interactions with your friends are becoming more and more mature. What happened to that tiny baby who I was afraid was going to break as we drove over all those potholes on the cross-Bronx coming home from the hospital? I think somehow she grew up right in front of my eyes.
Logan - Age 2, Week 43
Your clinginess can drive me batty, but it is also a thing I adore about you. I had always heard that boys had a special place in their hearts for their mamas, and it certainly holds true with you. I love how if I come into your room during the night after someone else has put you to bed, you cup my face with your hands as if you can't believe it's really me. It is so sweet and gentle. And during the day, you ask to be carried for no apparent reason, to no destination. You just want to be held. I know this will not last forever and that in a blink of an eye you will be locking me out of your room, so for now I will try not to get annoyed when you ask for "milk" for the thousandth time, and instead I will relish in the snuggles from my mama's boy.
