Snapshots of Our Week | The End of Summer Vacation on Long Island
By the time you read this, Lila will already have arrived at her first day of kindergarten. I'm sitting here surrounded by everything she needs to bring - a backpack, her lunchbox, a note telling her teacher not to put her on the bus. My camera is ready, the chalkboard with the date and school year has been updated. I have a mimosa date with two mom friends scheduled after drop off. I think we are ready to do this thing!!
I think the kids have been ready to get back to school for at least a week or two now. They are both restless and bored. Lila and I went school clothes shopping last Monday, which was fun. I'm hoping to make it an annual girls' day for her and I. We had lunch at Panera and then went to H&M and Old Navy and got her some new fall clothes. She is now officially better dressed than me!
I've been trying to squeeze every minute out of the remaining warm summer evenings while we still have them. I just love sitting on our front steps after I make the kids dinner and staying there for as long as I can. Logan usually joins me.
Two little goofballs in the back of Eric's truck.
On Tuesday we drove out to East Setauket to visit the Capaldi's. Lila and Logan were so happy to see Coco, Luna and Gavin. It's so nice to have great friends. We love every visit we have with them and always look forward to the next one.
On Wednesday we went over to Eisenhower Park to ride scooters. Lila and Logan took me to a playground I had never been to before over near the horse stables. Unfortunately on the way back to the car, Lila took a spill on her scooter and oh, boy! The melodrama! We did finally make it back to the car, but not before a lot of angst. And all for a tiny scrape on the knee. Such is life, right?
This week I had to document a Day in the Life of our family for a class I am taking. I chose to photograph all day Thursday. It has been a while since I've done one of these of our own family - they are not easy! It was a pretty boring day, but I managed to get a few shots that I am happy with. I know I will like looking back on the routine of our day in the months to come.
Friday was a gorgeous day weather-wise. Sunny, cool, breezy. I wanted to do something besides the regular run to the playground. I wanted to cross another item off the bucket list! So, we packed up a picnic lunch and headed over to Sagamore Hill, Teddy Roosevelt's summer home. It did not disappoint! We didn't even do a tour of the house - we'll save that for next time. We did walk around the museum there, where the kids earned their Junior Ranger badges, and then we explored two of the nature trails. One of them took us town to the beach, which was so peaceful and pretty. It was such a good day.
Over the weekend we hit a couple of playgrounds, went to Hicks Nursery to pick up some plants for the house (I am so in love with my new plants!) and visited the frozen yogurt place. A perfect way to end our summer break - doing all the things we love.
And finally, this week's portraits, for my 52 Week portrait project of both kids.
And that was our week! Happy first day to all those kids starting back at school today!
