The Dennis Family | A Family Documentary Session on Long Island
Fall seems to rush by in such a blur. September arrives. Back to school. The influx of flyers about food drives and book sales and parent/teacher conferences and scout meetings begins, on top of trying to remember which kid is supposed to wear what outfit on which day for Spirit Week. Its all such a rude awakening after the lackadaisical days of summer.
Before you know it, Halloween has arrived, and there are parades and more costumes to procure and then Thanksgiving shows up right after that.
Fall. Comparing it to being shot out of a cannon is an understatement.
Dawn contacted me in the middle of the fall madness. I have photographed her family a number of times before, and I adore them. They have three girls, ages six to ten, and baby boy CJ, who is a year old. Dawn is such a rockstar mama, always seems to have her shit together but is so down-to-earth at the same time. Her family has really embraced the documentary style of my sessions - it makes my heart swell to see my images in frames in their living room.
I know life has been a bit chaotic for them since adding their fourth child into the mix this past year, so I loved Dawn's quick email to me: "it just seems time to get some pictures of our crazy life right now."
This is a family who gets it. Who understands the value in documenting the crazy.
And it was a bit crazy to even get this session scheduled, amidst all the back-to-school plagues going around. But we finally did it!
It was three weeks before Christmas, and I know that sounds like a stressful time for a photo session, but it wasn't. That's the beauty of these sessions. It was just an ordinary day - except a camera happened to be present.
We hung out in the basement while dad pulled the Christmas decorations out. We played in the front yard, and then we headed over to the gazebo in town to get a quick group shot for the family's Christmas card. Easy peasy. And an awesome memory capsule for them of this crazy chaotic awesome time in their lives.
Take a look.
I am now booking sessions for 2018, excited and looking forward to telling more stories of families like yours.
