The Parents in Theater Project documents the lives of 8-10 families through a series of “A Day in the Life” photography & video sessions. Each of these families has at least one parent who works in professional theater, most either on or off-Broadway. The hope is to illuminate some of the unique challenges these parents face trying to balance work and family, in order to raise awareness and perhaps bring about some change within the industry.

Some of these challenges include health insurance coverage running out prior to birth, no paid maternity or paternity leave, childcare issues, inadequate pumping facilities, no arrangements for nursing mothers on rehearsal days, and the long hours spent away from home.

This in-progress project will culminate in still photography galleries and a short film of each family.
