52 Weeks of Portraits | Long Island Children's Photography

Another week of pushing through sickness. Lila came down with strep throat and stayed home until Thursday. My poor camera has been sorely neglected, collecting dust on the shelf. We are keeping our eyes on March 20th... the first day of spring. 57 more days to go.

A little background about this project: my 52 Week Project is a portrait project that documents the growth of my children. For each of their first years, I did a photo a day project of each of them... this is a simpler continuation of that. One portrait a week for the year - not your typical "sit and smile at the camera" portraits, but "environmental portraits" - photographs of my children, taken in their element, documenting this moment in their lives.

I try to write a few short words about each child under their portrait to record any details or milestones of the week.

This project was inspired by a gorgeous blog called You Are My Wild

At the end of each year, I make a memory book of the year's portraits.

Logan - Age 2, Week 32

I am in awe with the strength of your spirit. You've had a rough couple of weeks, and in fact you are still fighting through a nasty cold. But you push through with your little spirit intact. My sunshine boy. I look to you for reassurance.

Lila - Age 5, Week 10

This week was your turn to be sick. You have a pretty hardy immune system, so this week's sick visit to the doctor was only your second ever in your life. Pretty amazing. Just like your brother, I have been so impressed with your bravery and strength this week. My tough little girl.
