Snapshots of our Week | At Home on Long Island

Today we celebrate Lila's sixth birthday! I can't believe it was six whole years ago that I was lying in a hospital room overlooking Central Park, with no clue how much my life was about to change! It has been a wild ride, one I wouldn't trade for anything.

We have been counting down (well, okay, LILA has been counting down!) to her birthday for a few weeks now. Planning her birthday party and just getting generally excited about being SIX!

Last week I did a bunch of shopping in preparation. November is a busy month - between the birthday and Thanksgiving and fall photo sessions!

I participated in a week of self-portraits with alumni from the class "The Family Historian". I have been wanting to make more of an effort to get in the frame with my kids, so this was a good kick in the butt. I didn't manage to complete an entire week of self-portraits due to commitments over the weekend, but it did ignite the self-portrait spark in me again, so hopefully you will be seeing more soon!

It has turned pretty frigid in the past few days so looking at this image of the two kids in just sweatshirts seems like a distant memory. We had our first frost on Saturday! (and I almost killed myself slipping off the porch!)

I'm currently taking a class called "Real Life, Still Life" - capturing the details of everyday life (that don't involve people). It is really making me take note of all the items in our house and their significance to us and what they say about us ...

Tuesday was Election Day, so the kids were off school, but we did have Parent/Teacher conferences. Lila's teacher said she is doing great in school - both academically and socially/behaviorally - we are very proud!

We stay and play on the elementary school playground most days after school. Logan cracks me up in how bold he is interacting with the older kids. A three year old bossing around sixth graders!

I've been trying to keep up with a few minutes of reading everyday, something I started carving out time for over the summer. I have a huge stack of books on my nightstand that I hope to make a dent in this winter.

Anyone have suggestions for good cozy, winter reads?

The plus side of Lila being in school full time now, is that Logan and I get a lot of one-on-one time. It's nice to be able to put him first for once. The other day we spent the afternoon at the playground, and he was SO happy!

These two bicker a lot but they also love each other "to pizza", as Logan would say!

It was cold this past week, but so bright outside! That bright November light was lovely to wake up to! (and now it has disappeared - come back sunshine!!).

On Saturday night, Logan's classmate Kyleigh had a birthday party at the Rockville Center Rec Gym. The kids had a blast! And bonus - it tired them out for bed!

This week's portraits:

Lila - Age 5, Week 53? (maybe off on the count here)

Logan - Age 3, Week 23

And that was our week!
