A Dress Rehearsal | Long Island Event Photographer

A few weeks ago I returned to my roots and did a little backstage photography at a dress rehearsal for a local high school's dance concert. It was a fun change of pace from all the family sessions I've been doing, and nice to get back to where my photography started - documenting life behind the scenes. I bought my first DSLR while touring in 2007 with Monty Python's "Spamalot", and spent the four years following primarily documenting life in the theater. I love finding the little pockets of light in the wings, and focusing on the quiet moments offstage as well as capturing onstage moments from the vantage point of a participatory company member, rather than an audience member viewing the show from the front. It's an interesting twist for someone not involved in the production to be able to see it from this point of view.

Here are a few of my favorite photographs from the afternoon.

I photographed backstage at a student dance concert today and it was really hard to keep from yelling "places!" and "all dancers to the stage!!" - you can take the girl out of stage management, but you can't take the stage manager out of the girl. #longislandphotographer

I loved photographing this rehearsal, and would love to document more dance, theater, events and small business stories. If you are interested in having your art or business story documented in a unique way - please contact me and let's chat!
