52 Weeks of Portraits | Garden City, NY Family Photographer
Catching up on two weeks worth of portraits today.
A little background about this project: my 52 Week Project is a portrait project that documents the growth of my children. For each of their first years, I did a photo a day project of each of them... this is a simpler continuation of that. One portrait a week for the year - not your typical "sit and smile at the camera" portraits, but "environmental portraits" - photographs of my children, taken in their element, documenting this moment in their lives.
I try to write a few short words about each child under their portrait to record any details or milestones of the week.
This project was inspired by a gorgeous blog called You Are My Wild.
At the end of each year, I make a memory book of the year's portraits.
Lila - Age 5, Week 15
I see less and less of the preschooler these days, and more and more of the big girl. Your legs are getting long and you seem taller everyday. I keep thinking about you starting full day school in September with such mixed emotions. I am so glad that you are excited for kindergarten, but I will miss our weekday outings. It really seems like the end of babyhood, the end of you needing me so much. The beginning of independence. I'm not sure I'm ready, even though you are.
Lila - Age 5, Week 16
We spent last weekend at your happy place - "the house in the woods". You are my nature girl, you love walks in the woods and collecting treasures and exploring. I hope you always keep that curiosity and appreciation for even the smallest of discoveries.
Logan - Age 2, Week 37
Oh, this boy of mine. You have learned how to manipulate your mom with those crocodile tears that you can turn on at the drop of a dime. I am trying to be stronger when it comes to resisting your cries, but man, it is hard. You've got me wrapped around your little finger, that is for sure.
Logan - Age 2, Week 38
Two, almost three. Straddling that line between baby (still nursing like a newborn!) and little boy (fighting me every step of the way, you little monkey). One thing is for sure, you are most definitely your own little person with a strong sense of independence and opinion. Keep on being you, buddy.
