52 Weeks of Portraits | Long Island Family Photographer

A little background about this project: my 52 Week Project is a portrait project that documents the growth of my children. For each of their first years, I did a photo a day project of each of them... this is a simpler continuation of that. One portrait a week for the year - not your typical "sit and smile at the camera" portraits, but "environmental portraits" - photographs of my children, taken in their element, documenting this moment in their lives.

I try to write a few short words about each child under their portrait to record any details or milestones of the week.

This project was inspired by a gorgeous blog called You Are My Wild

At the end of each year, I make a memory book of the year's portraits.

Lila - Age 5, Week 32

I see that is going to be a challenge to keep you occupied this summer - already the boredom and being away from your friends is setting in. I am hoping once our relatives arrive you will be more engaged. In the meantime I am trying my best to come up with activities for us to do, while at the same time encouraging some independent play. The trouble is, you are not one to play by yourself. You thrive on socializing. You do not take after your mother in this way!!

Logan - Age 3, Week 2

I remember going through this phase with Lila when she was about your age. You will not wear shorts! It kills me to put long pants on you during these hot days, but you just will not give in to anything else. Which makes no sense to me since you love running around in just your diaper most days! Kids are the strangest!
