Snapshots of Our Week | Vacationing on the North Fork

It's been an eventful week around here - we are in full vacation mode over here and loving it. My parents are still here and we rented a house out on the North Fork of Long Island this week, in Southold. I've lived on Long Island for six years now and have never been out that far east on the island, can you believe it? The house we stayed in was a tavern in the 1700's and was a such a unique place to stay. The kids loved it. We had so much space, and there was a big trampoline in the backyard, which was a total hit.

We arrived on Tuesday and settled into the house, then went to the town of Greenport after lunch to walk around. The kids were a bit grumpy so we didn't stay too long. We spent the rest of the afternoon back at the house, playing on the trampoline and grilling dinner.

The house was so charming with lots of lovely little pockets of light. I slept upstairs in one of the old inn rooms with the kids.

On Wednesday we got up and headed out early to Lavender by the Bay, a beautiful lavender farm out in Marion. Logan was terrified of a bunch of free-roaming chickens there, so we didn't stay long, but it was lovely to see all the lavender in bloom, even if only for a few minutes.

In the afternoon, we headed off to one of Southold's private beaches. It was perfect weather - no humidity. Lila was a little fish, and spent all afternoon in the water.

A few photos of the rental house from the outside:

The trampoline was definitely the hit of the week. The kids want one for our house, but it would take up the whole backyard!

I just loved all the amazing window light in this house.

On Thursday we headed home, but stopped for the afternoon in Riverhead and went to the Long Island Aquarium. The kids loved it! The seal lion show was great, they liked the sharks and feeding the koi. Logan HATED the butterfly exhibit though! The butterflies were as big as birds and one of them landed on him, and he screamed bloody murder until I took him out of the room haha :)

On Friday we had a lazy day back at home and I worked that evening, filming a party at the Project Life Center in Queens for a brand story video I am working on for their website. It is such an awesome space and a great organization - I urge all my local friends to check out their class schedule!

On Saturday we went to Planting Fields Arboretum for the afternoon. It was my parents' first time seeing the inside of the mansion there and the greenhouses. We finished off with some ice cream at the visitor's center!

Then on Sunday, we drove up to Copake, where will stay through the 4th of July. It has been a whirlwind of a week!

Summer, I love you. Never leave!
