Snapshots of Our Week | The Long Island Mom Life
Winter days... plugging along through January. I noticed last night that we still had a little vestige of light at 5:15pm! This makes me happy.
The kids... I wrote on Instagram a week or so ago about the "off" period in their development that comes around in cycles every year. The nursery school director at Logan's school taught me about this. During every year of child development, there is a period of equilibrium followed by a period of growth... the period of growth can be challenging. The child is out of sorts. I think we are going through a growth period right now. Both kids are out of sorts in different ways. We are working on helping them through it. At any rate, I've decided a change of scenery this coming weekend may be just what the doctor ordered - especially since we weren't able to get away during the Christmas break. We're playing hooky on Friday and Monday and heading upstate. Hoping it does everyone good.
The weather thankfully warmed up a bit this week and on Sunday we were able to spend a couple of hours at the playground. It was lovely. Fresh air is such a mood booster.
I had two sessions this week that were very different from each other. One was a day of filming interviews for a video project I am working on for Max Finkelstein Inc.'s centennial celebration next year. This is a tire distribution company which has been family-run for a hundred years, and the story of the company's beginnings is pretty special. I am excited to be working on putting a legacy video story together for them.
The other session I did was an in-home family documentary photo shoot for Vera Sweeney, who is the writer of a local lifestyle blog called Lady and the Blog. It was really fun hanging out with her family and I really enjoyed chatting with her and her husband about living in the Garden City area and also about online marketing and Instagram, where Vera is a total rockstar! I'm working on editing the photographs from her family's session now and I can't wait to share them!
Other than that, it was a pretty mellow week. Eric finished the stonework on the front of our porch and I had to hide the new bird feeder from the squirrels. They were getting aggressive!
I'm looking forward to our weekend mini-break. Maybe next year we'll plan a getaway somewhere warmer, like Florida! Until then though, we''ll be happy upstate in the woods.
Hope you all have a great week.
