Snapshots of our Week | Countdown to the Holidays
We’ve had a crazy morning already with a run to the pediatrician, a strep throat diagnosis, and now of course the dog is throwing up. What is it about this time of year? Do families who live in year-round warm weather climates deal with illness all winter like we seem to every November-May? It is so challenging for me as a parent… especially as I work from home. Sometimes it seems like I’ll never see the outside world again. Just days upon days of my corner of the dining room - one eye on a computer screen, desperately trying to get work finished on and delivered on time, one eye on a sick child on the couch. I know there are plenty of healthy happy days, too… it just becomes hard to hold onto those when someone seems to come down with something every other week.
Lila started feeling under the weather early last week. She stayed home from school on Wednesday. We didn’t do much during the week. I’ve been working my butt off trying to get all my client work done by the end of this week so that I can take two weeks off for the holidays. I was glued to the computer screen for any minute that I was chauffeuring somebody somewhere.
We had a drama-filled Saturday night as Lila fell and bashed her nose on the hardwood floor of our living room and had an epic nosebleed. It looked like a crime scene in here! And she is not a fan of blood, so that was fun.
We did get out this weekend and have a bit of fun, though. Lila had a birthday party to go to on Saturday and then on Sunday we went to Planting Fields to see the Coe House decorated for the holidays. It was lovely. I highly recommend a visit if you are in the NYC/Long Island area. Afterward we went out to lunch and then later in the afternoon we got our Christmas tree. The kids were exhausted and passed out by 7pm.
Today I am shuffling Lila off to the grandparents while I work in Logan’s classroom for the afternoon. The rest of the week will be about getting Lila healthy (hopefully a day or two of antibiotics will make her feel a whole lot better), getting Christmas gifts and cards sent off, and finishing up client work.
Hoping for a peaceful and happy and RELAXING rest of the month!
