June Snapshots | Documenting Family Life on Long Island

June was a jam-packed month. So many festivities and events as the school year came to an end, not to mention birthdays AND Father’s Day!

Logan finished up his last days of nursery school with the epic Great Train Trip to Oyster Bay. He was thrilled to ride on the train with all of his friends to the beach, and we had a great time picnicking, wading in the water and collecting treasures. We finished up the day with Munchkins from Dunkin’ Donuts to celebrate Logan’s birthday with his classmates.

That night after returning from the beach, it was Lila’s turn to celebrate with her Girl Scout bridging ceremony from Daisies to Brownies. We had pizza in the park with all the troop families and the girls performed a little play for us and then traversed the bridge on the playground, symbolizing their moving up to Brownies.

We celebrated Logan’s fifth birthday on the 8th with a party at the rec gym in Rockville Center. Logan had a great time and it was nice to get together with all his friends. The following day was Garden City Dance School’s recital, which both Lila and Logan performed in. I was so proud of them for being brave and getting up and dancing in front of so many people at the big NYCB concert venue. We celebrated afterward with dinner at Chili’s.

Logan graduated from Pre-K a few days later. Definitely a bittersweet day. Garden City Nursery School has been home away from home for our family for five years now and we have made so many wonderful friends there. Although I’m excited for Logan’s journey to elementary school, it is hard leaving the comfort of the place that has nurtured and cared for both my kids! The graduation ceremony was really nice and everyone loved the slideshow I made documenting the three years the kids had spent at the school (I’ll post it below in case you are interested in watching it).

The week following the graduation was still very full with a class picnic for Logan and a BBQ at Nana and Pops’ house to celebrate Father’s Day and my birthday.

Logan went to camp at his nursery school for the last two weeks of June while Lila was finishing up at her school. We spent quite a few days at the pool, and I traveled in to NYC with Lila and her Brownie troop to see “Aladdin” on Broadway - their treat for selling so many cookies this year.

By the end of the month both kids were officially on summer vacation and we are now happily into the routine of lazy mornings, afternoons at the pool and various outings.

Isn’t summer the best??
