WHAT ARE FAMILY DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILMS?
Storytelling Photography & Films for Families and Brands
Long Island | New York City Documentary Photographer & Filmmaker
"Family Documentary Photography" or "Family Photojournalism" is unscripted, non-directed, candid photography of your life.
It is embracing that REAL is so much better than perfect.
I come to your home, or a location that has meaning to you, and record your moments and interactions authentically. There is no posing or sitting still for the camera, just documentation of real life.
"Family Documentary Films" are the same idea, only using the medium of video to record your story.
These photographs and video will capture the true essence of your family at this stage of life, in all its tantrum-ing, messy, teary, silly, beautiful glory, so that you can look back and remember exactly how it felt at this very moment.
A precious time capsule that bottles up life at this minute for you to hold onto forever.
Sessions can capture "a slice of your everyday life", or a more specific story: a project you are working on, a special occasion, a hobby, an event, a milestone. Documentary film sessions can also be designed as a "video portrait" of someone in particular. Together we can discuss what story you would like captured and how to achieve this.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR "SLICE OF LIFE" FAMILY SESSION:
Before your session, I will send you a questionnaire to get to know you and your family a little bit better. Together we will come up with ideas for a couple of activities that will facilitate interaction and connection between your family members during the session, but the plan will be very flexible and we will go with the flow.
I want to capture the true essence of your family, and your home, so you should not go out of your way to clean up, dress up, or do anything out of the ordinary.
After arriving at your home, and spending a few minutes getting to know you, I will start taking photographs or video as you go about your activities. For the most part, I will be a fly on the wall, capturing your day as it unfolds.
